A Mated Pair of Banded Butterflyfish
at Rolling Hills Reef near Grand Turk

Banded Butterflyfish

We've seen these pretty little fish before. These two fish are Banded Butterflyfish. They are a mated pair, a "husband and wife" that travel around the reef together.

These fish were about 7 inches long. We saw them hiding among the columns of a colony of Pillar Corals at Rolling Hills Reef near Grand Turk. They would swim out to see what we were, then swim back among the columns where they felt safe. These fish played peek-a-boo like this with us for several minutes, giving all of the ReefNews divers a chance to see them up close.
